How do I purchase a set a blueprints for a house that the builder is still building?

I am having to move from my area to another one about 550 miles away. My wife and I have FINALLY found the perfect home and LOVE the floor plan, elevation, etc. However, the builder in the Austin area does not build this house where we are going, in fact they don't do any business within 300 miles of there.
My question is, how do we get a copy of the bluerprints? I realize we will have to buy them, and I know the builder probably only purchased the rights to the design from some architect, but how do I go about finding how to get them?
The builder is very coy about it and the local reps all just act like they have no idea where floorplans come from. They say since they are still building it there is NO way anyone can get it, but heck the basic shape is on the darned pamplet they pass out, so I figured there has to be some way to purchase the actual plans.

Anytime a builder is beating around the bush pertaining to the work of a consultant raises a red flag. There may be many different reasons why the builder is uncooperative with giving out information, usually, it comes down to some form of disagreement. He has breached the contractual agreement with the architect/residential designer by either non-payment, building the set of drawings beyond the agreement (usually one fee per project), modification to the plans without approval, or simply having a draftsman illegally draw up an existing plan. There is no legal method to force the builder to hand over a set of drawings to you. You may go to the City/County building department and pull up information on the existing permit number. On the cover sheet is usually contact information on the parties involved. Even if the architect/residential designer is not listed, the structural engineer's name and number should be on it. You can contact the engineer to get you the proper contact information.
Have you told the builder why you want them? He may then tell you the source of them, and then purchase from that person/
