you should probably lay out your plan for a house and then get someone who knows more about it to help you actually design the house.
As for what everyon else is saying about it not being a good idea to build your own house... my girlfriend's dad did it and my sister did it. they are two of the best houses i've ever seen and they saved a shitload of money because they didnt hire contractors... but they had friends that knew what they were doing help them out (& paid them in beer).

You could lay out a floor plan,
(but an Architect would do it better.)

are skilled trades in themselves.

There is software you can buy that will help you design a house. But you may have trouble getting the plans approved by a zoning board, or finding a builder to build from the plans.
If you were smart enough to build your own house, you would be smart enough to realize you should use a professional builder.
Don't build a house yourself. Horrible idea. Pay someone else to do it, you're just end up wasting money cause you'll screw up.
