How can I obtain blueprints of a house that is already built?

My brother and his wife purchased a home recently and I would like to obtain the blueprints so I can frame them as a "house warming" gift. I have no idea where to begin. Can anyone offer any insight??

There is no archive for blueprints on homes. Many homes are built as spec houses and blueprints are only with the builder. Commercial projects always require blueprints, specifications required to get state and local permits. Residential projects are not as stringent.
As an option, have a local artist to a watercolor painting of the front of this house. Sometimes you can find a local artist at your nearest college, university.
Chances are if you would find the blueprints - they will not be in pristine condition anyway. They would be rumpled, sun faded and pencil marked. Most builders don't have extra sets made as they are expensive - so they use one or two sets which are used by the contractor and all subcontractors to build the home.
The builder may have them still, or know where to get them. That only works well if the house was built recently. If it's 30 or 50 or 80 years old, good luck - it may have been built by the original owner, who put a wall here because it gave just enough room to put his bed and a dresser in that room.

Contact the township or county tax assessor or zoning enforcement office. They may be able to put you in touch with the builder, if it's in their records.
Contact the builder. Blue prints are usually owned by the designer or the builder.
