Where can I find blueprints to a house I've rented in the past?

I fell in love with one of the houses I grew up in, and I'd love the blueprints from it so I can have someone look at them and add a second story.

I know where to go to get an architect to look at them, but I'm not sure on where to find the blueprints themselves. CAn anyone help me?

Blueprints are protected and usually patented by the original builder/developer and so are not available to be copied. It is so noted on the blueprints that they cannot be copied by law. Your best bet is to hire someone to draw up new plans using what you remember about the home and adding the second floor. There are many books available with home styles and floor plans at places like Home Depot and Lowes where you can order blueprints for the homes for hundreds of dollars but this is the only souce I know where blueprints are available for a price.
