Part 1: Man building amazing home with shipping containers

From the road, it looks a bit like a post-apocalyptic country castle. Neighbours might be forgiven for thinking the property is some sort of commune. But Bill Glennon maintains that building his retirement dream house out of 31 sea containers (sea-cans) is a reasonable, rational — and indeed practical — thing to do. Its not a pink elephant, Glennon quipped outside of the under-construction complex southeast of Rimbey. For full story see: www.albertalocalnews.com Follow Bill Glennon on Twitter: twitter.com

    Hello Mr Glennon
My name is Milan and I’m interested in ISBU construction and have my own project, so far still on the paper neverless I would be interested to volunteer on your project for at least few days so I can learn about some stuff that you had to/will have to overcome to along the way, eg. insulation, connecting containers together, cracks in plastering and render caused by flexing and contracting/tensioning of the steel, roofing. Please let me know if you are interested. I’m from IRL

Because we are going through engineers and the permit system, we haven’t had any problems meeting any building codes and such. Having a good background in construction, we are able to work within the codes.

  15. gregryf says:

This is a great idea. I ‘ve considered doing the same thing. What about meeting building codes, zoning, etc.?
