Highlands House Concerts Host & Musician, Dwight Mark, builds a home studio in the bedroom. Starting with the idea to make a simple closet isolation booth, the project turned into an education on ventilation and bass traps. As suggested by many online forums, I purchased some bass traps and made my own and tried to cover as many corners of the room as possible.

I’m doing some work on Slim Productions Studio and you have aided in my research. I hope you’ll be able to see an improvement on the shows we work on in the future.
Great job and source of inspiration. What type of foam did you use inside of to create Bass Trapps? Is there a certain type of fabric you used/ where did you purchase it from.I have the same RTA Studio desk. What where you doing behind it,In the video with drill???Thanks for video.
cool vid dwight
but why is ventilation important to the isolation booth?
it seems like an awful lot of work when you could just open the door when your not recording??

I LOVE SEEING OTHER EXPERIENCED “MICKEY MOUSERS” LIKE MYSELF! I install home ventilation systems for a living and I’m very curious why you specified TURNS in your flex run..Any bends you add is going to add length to your run. the shorter a flex run is, the quieter it will be. You want your duct run as straight a run as possible, every bend restricts the air flow, the more restriction, the noisier it will be. You said u experimented, so i’m curious did you find it to be quieter by adding bends?
Neat, I noticed some of the panels are Chameleon Panels from Ready Acoustics. Nice!
this is excellent!
i am about to embark on exactly the same type of project , moving my small untreated studio into the larger spare room and add lots of bass traps!
also checked out your site,
keep singin them blues man,
respect,
all the best

Cool, now to get a job and buy a house
this gives me so many great ideas!!!!
Very, very impressive, Dwight!!
You have to be single right? I want to turn the room I sit in right now into something like that but My Lady won’t have it…..Next up is buying a house with a unfinished loft usually above the garage…….It will be my own room to do whatever with and I can’t stop day dreaming about it……You have inspired me!!!!! So do you record bands or is it just for you?
thanks for the video, it was really great to see someone elses solutions to the problems of building a home studio. Well done! hope it works well for you
Really great setup you’ve put together! It must have been quite a task to put that all together yourself. Now you’ve set it all up; how did it turn out? It must have come out pretty great! Can you do this sort of thing on a budget? And where did you get the foam padding for your vocal room?
thats amazing dude, well done, very inspirational to all musicians looking to start a studio. Great work, and it looks great
AWESOME dude – I haven’t gone back to read ll the comments that some dumb prats have obviously made. The vid is GREAT, very inspiring. Would love to see some more with step y step guides for some of those traps. I see you have 55 vidz so maybe the stuff is in there and I just haven’t seen it yet. CONGRTAZ on a great looking studio,

NICE WORK!! I did a bass traps just like you!
can u give me an advice on how to make a vocal booth in my apartment closet i have birds and i want to take the sound away from that i think wall so i wonder what i kneed for that
Fine job – now how does it sound? Any chance of hearing a recording… Just one thing – I found out the hard way that you can’t have acoustic guitars hanging in the room while you record. They just love to sing along with whatever you are playing.
nice work man i love it im trying that too
nice man ,. really love it..! ;p
nice man
It looks like your hard work paid off. I hope it is everything you wanted it to be and more. I see you used mineral wool as your sound proofing insulation. That stuff is the worst to work with, it’s itchy and dusty and generally miserable, but once it is contained it does a great job killing sound. Building your own studio is another way to exercise your creativity and I am sure this project inspired you to take on new projects with confidence. Thank you for your effort.
