Saltbox Shed Blueprints

Saltbox Shed Blueprints

The saltbox shed design is a very unique structure, it is not your typical garden or storage shed.  It can actually add a touch of style and character to your yard.  But more importantly, you will have much more storage space than in a typical storage shed even though they have the same footprint.  You gain extra storage space because the front part of the saltbox shed is 2 stories, while the back half of the building is one story.

Because this is not your typical box or rectangular shaped shed, you definitely want a good set of Saltbox Shed Blueprints. The roof alone can be quite tricky to build.  The 2 story front section of the saltbox shed has a very short, but steep inclined roof section, but the back side of the roof is very long with a gradual slope.  This saltbox shed roof is designed to cover 2 different building levels but only utilizing a single peak roof.

Unless you are a very experienced carpenter and roofer, this could be a very difficult project to undertake without a good set of saltbox shed blueprints.  There are some very complicated and unusual cuts that you wouldn't have on your standard single level style shed. Keep in mind that anytime you measure and cut material incorrectly, it costs you not only money but time you can't get back.

A detailed set of plans is the only way to go, you will more than get your money back in material savings alone.  Your set of plans will come with a complete material list which you can then take to two of three of your local lumber yards and get quotes.  You will find you can probably save at least 10% and maybe even more on your materials.  When you don't have a complete material list, you may find yourself going back and forth to the lumber yard because you miscalculated the materials you would need. The cut sheets that will come with your set of plans will show you exactly how to cut each and every piece of material, and the step by step instructions will be a lifesaver to you during construction.

The saltbox shed design is a great concept, coming from the old Coloninal style homes up and around the New England area. It was very typical for growing families that needed more space in their homes to add on a single level at the back of the house and then extend the roof from the original 2 story house all the way down to cover the new addition, never altering the beautiful front part of the home.

If you are limited in yard space but desperately need more storage space, the saltbox shed design would be one to consider.  But, I would not recommend tackling this project without a set of saltbox shed blueprints.  You will save yourself time and money and a lot of frustration.

I am the wife of a "Handy Man" and sometimes even his helper. We have saved so much money over the years because we were able to "fix it or build it" ourselves.

Being a handy man doesn't come naturally for everyone, but you can still tackle some of these projects if you have a good set of plans and detailed instructions.
