Chicken Coops Blueprints: Happy Birds Lay More Eggs!

Article by Dennis Cordy

A search will show lots of chicken coops blueprints on the internet, but how do you know that any of them will be up to scratch? In fact, why should you pay at all if you can find free designs for chicken coops that you can use for nothing?

I hope you don't mind but I'm going to answer those two questions in the opposite order. I'm going to kick off with free chicken coop plans.

Nobody is saying that you won't find some decent ones - and it could be I'm being too doubting - but why are they being given away? Regularly it's what my uncle used to term "a sprat to catch a mackerel" - the bait to get you to buy something bigger. I'm OK with that - who says you have to pay for the bigger, full set of chicken coop plans, right? Although if the free ones are a decent quality, why would you need the other version?

I could be misjudging, maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm being unfair and some people are just offering free hen house plans out of the generosity of their hearts. If you get some like that and they're of an acceptable standard, go for it!

Let's say you haven't been successful though, and you're searching for chicken coops blueprints that you're going to have to pay for. Nearly all well drawn ones run to between and . That's not huge money, but you still want to make sure you're getting your money's worth.

So my first thought would be, what does their website look like? It doesn't have to look like it was put together by some giant international organization, but if looks reasonably good and functions properly, they clearly pay attention to detail. If they don't care about their own website, how will you know they spend time on their coop plans?

After that, is there any suggestion of who drew up the plans? If they were made by an architect, for example, you would imagine they've been done right. You would think the same if it's a person who has been working in a chicken business for a considerable time - they'll know what they are putting together.

Also, you want to look at variety. Do the chicken coop plans provide one size or style, or could you make several different ones. With multiple options, if one doesn't quite do it for you when you study it in detail, you can just choose another - without having to spend out again.

Other considerations might be whether there are notes from happy customers, whether the hen house plans are in a format you can use (PDF is a good choice) and finally, some people even give a money back guarantee. It ought to make you feel more secure about your choice.

When you check out chicken coop prices it makes sense to make your own. There are plans around that make this fairly rapid and trouble free, even if you have minimal woodwork experience. Finding the best chicken coops blueprints is just a matter of taking a couple of minutes to look at what's out there and applying a bit of common sense. Don't worry, you'll soon have those superb birds nice and settled in - and providing fresh eggs for you every day.
