Make your own portable dartboard stand

I made this portable dartboard stand using a lighting tripod from Maplins - Cat no. QK42V. It is perfectly fine if you have nowhere to permanently place a dartboard, this would do the job. Although its not perfect and there is a little wobble at the top, it is perfectly usable and easy to put up and take down. It cost me £20 and 2 hours to make - and that included finding the bits! Now there's no excuse for not having a dartboard in the house. I reckon that the spare part of the t bar could be used for lighting or a webcam too :)

    - because it is holding that metal bracket which I was using for wedging the board against – so I wanted to tighten it as much as I could.

I just received my tripod and t-bar today priced £20 (on sale) and its great and I am going to follow this video to attach my dartboard etc…
One thing I would say is the tripod is thicker than I thought and it does not wobble much, so thanks for this great video .

Made one yesterday, really impressed. Bit of wobble which I’ll engineer out another time, but for 45 mins work its awesome, just get yourself an ochemate and your away. For now I’ve wedged it up against a door and a wall with 2 old wrapping paper tubes. No wobble now.
Thanks for the idea, saved me a load of money over the dartmate, and I think it would be better than one to. The stand is still available in maplins for £20. Winner.

Thanks for the inspiration. I went ahead and made my own version of this. I’m renting, so I can’t drill into the walls. I wanted a Unicorn Dartmate for a long time, but it was just too expensive. And compared to what I was able to make myself, hardly worth it. I also made my own large backboard out of plywood, corkboard, and green felt. I’ll leave the making of the actual dartboard up to Winmau though.

    - I reckon that for some strange reason they have started selling more of these …. so the price goes up lol

I built mine yesterday, awesome im very happy with it! now i can practice at uni!! if you get the screw in the back of the board right the board barely spins round too, couple of pieces of cardboard just wedged in the back too just to be sure. And a surround in the post, dont want to be losing the deposit to my flat ;)

    - all I dod was to attach the standard dartboard wall bracket to the t-bar stand and then put the usual screw in the back of the dartboard - job done :)

  16. AnthonyCowboy says:

How is it attached to the dart board???

Thanks for this. Really useful. My neighbour made me a “redneck” version out of odds and ends and the frame of a garden chair. Needless to say, my missus wouldn’t have it in the house.
But this version looks far more acceptable.
One note on reducing wobble: If you’re able to put the stand just in front of a wall, door, or cupboard, then a cuddly toy or cushion between board and wall works wonders!
